Today was the final day of the individual Track Championships. On Saturday, Will took gold in the cat-4 match sprints (again, nice work Will), so the pressure was on to keep the Team O winning streak alive. Points Race: Riz, Cow and I discussed going easy the first 15-20 laps to see how things would shake out and let some of the guys tire themselves out… then we’d turn it up. Well things rarely go as planned; once the race got going Cow realized we needed a ‘rabbit’ to get some of the more anxious guys to burn their matches early. So he started to mix it up on the first 15 laps, and that got things opened up. After the sprint for lap 25, a guy launched an attack and I followed his wheel. He blew up after a lap, so I buried my head and went for it, knowing that getting first on the 30th lap would score me 10pts. I treated it as a mini time trial and when I crossed the line, I had opened up a big gap on the field. So I decided to keep going and try to lap them. It took a while, but I did it! By this point I felt I had it in the bag… I had just cleaned up 35 pts. The rest of the race was all about the boys protecting me (excellent teamwork from Riz and Cow). They even led me out to a few more sprint points… and then it was over… gold medal. The cool part is that since Rob was still a cat 5 on the track, he took gold for his category.
